kill bill and new friends

can't believe i waited so long. now that i watch it again i still can't believe i waited so long. and i will be waiting too long until next time. who doesn't wanna frame the picture of uma and lucy liu in the snowy backyard,
a cat-fight-extra-vaganca. well, who doesn't?

and we're up for a fight too. defending our new born.
"new friends" is out, exposed and ready to get torn into pieces.

and there will be a follow-up. in black and white, perhaps?

confessions of a gypsy

train in vain
on a train between west coast city gothenburg and stockholm. it's sunny sunday and spring can't wait to burst. the landscape we're riding through is starting to blush, colours rise from underneath the pale cadavers of winter. to a gypsy like myself, travelling like this makes a lot of sense. movement inspires me. there is something comforting in going from one place to another. some people set heavy roots and stay happily at one spot forever, others thrive from always being on the move. i belong to the second category. guess my lucky star put me in a touring band!

majestic russian
made an appearance at sweden's only folk and world music awards last night. the concert hall of gothenburg is a beautiful, massive 50's building. impressively architectured and easy to get lost in. about 1200 people attended and the evening was a hit. we played "shame & dance", a song from the upcoming album, "new friends". we extended it with a mystic banjo intro and squeezed out the last drop of energy in our six minutes in the spot light. well, that's just our idea of fun.

coach 6 seat 42
i'm in the very front of the train and i'm travelling backwards. my seat doesn't have a window. i have no one to chat with. i miss my sisters, who flew off to their homes. but i enjoy travelling alone. the ultimate freedom. if you ask me, that is.

here's a video treat for you all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVsyZR46HIA

love kate bush

did you know that this british madwoman has been creating her very own genre of music for over 30 years? yet, she did only one tour, back in the late 70's, when she was just 20 yrs.

she broke through with her first single, "wuthering heights", a song inspired by the utterly romantic and heartbreakingly sad novel by emily brontë. (when the book was released in 1847, under the pseudonym "ellis bell", it got criticized for its portrayal of amoral passion. today it's considered a classic of english literature). they're both masterpieces. bush's video for the song shows her dancing/swaying/fluttering in a desolate field all dressed in red and, of course, with red lips.

you gotta love kate bush. there is no way around it. she's too cool for school. she barely gives interviews and she has managed to keep the mystical glow around her all these years. and she's a stylish broad - just look at all remarkable creations she's worn throughout her career. which is not yet over, btw - more kate bush to the people!

austinites in long beach

after our fourth visit to austin in 2 years, this texan oasis has become our second home. we've made loads of friends and even new family in dear uncle paul. it's a great feeling to know that the door to this amazing city is always open. we're a bunch of lucky girls!

sxsw was crazy but fun! nine shows in five days meant a lot of action, but we enjoy keeping busy. among the fav shows were the belmont party wednesday night, paul's house concert at jax and leeann's full moon barn party on the 20th, which also was stella's b-day. when leeann got the whole crowd to sing happy birthday under the super moon, we all felt being part of something great. thanks, austinites for yet another lovely visit, that apart from performing also ment some time off, like canoeing down colorado river, chill around bonfires and margeritas in the afternoon sun.

we couldn't wait to meet this matt dude, we've been hearing so much about. this long beach charmer eats healthy, starts his day surfing and is an awesome producer/engineer/photographer/artist. the planned seven days visit in long beach disappeared as quickly as the setting sun and we could have stayed forever, recording songs, shooting videos and picking ripe lemons from the neighbour's tree. showcasing at the prospector was fun, the place looks like a saloon taken from some movie and we tore it down!

back in europe means a couple of weeks off before summer kicks in with its festivals, release of the new album and trips here and there around the continent.

have a good one!

fruits of dullness

some clever person once said: no play makes baskery a dull band.

dull indeed, but looking forward to hitting the road again soon! stopping by at a local bar for locals tomorrow nite and then heading for a place where spring's hopefully already showing it's pale, yet beautiful face - austin, tx!

a show at the saxon pub with dear pals, porter davis, will be a NICE warm up for the upcoming sxsw, where you will get enough of us...
and on top of that - LALALLALAAA - the city where winter turns into summer without nobody noticing. cannot wait, pals.

defrosting on our minds!

cheers

skating in circles

like a huge skating rink! and we feel like figure skating, though busy schedule keeps us on steady grounds. rare sun beams = preview of spring and we bask like lizards in the desert. but mostly we unpack instruments inside weird/charming buildings and play until we drop.
and oh, the west coast is b e a u t i f u l !

the great escape

we fled the flooding brisbane a couple of days ago, just as the city was being evacuated. guess our timing was good, for once. at first we didn't realize how serious it was. sure, it was raining A LOT, but we accepted the fact that the sun wouldn't shine for us and played like kids in the pools that grew bigger and bigger. the final gig in eumundi was canceled due to the heavy rain in the area and we threw a farewell party at the motel only miles away from the town where people drowned the morning after, struck by a sudden water wall.

yellow brick road
we had fun and did good in the country of oz. hope to be able to return within too long. them aussies sure know how to appreciate music - we adored our colourful crowds! it will stop raining, lands will dry up and you will recover. until then, take care!

we need a boat!

stuck at a motel in nambour, the tropical parts of this island. and as islands float, we float. gig tonite got canceled due to the flooding, the roof of the venue almost gave in... never seen anything like this, the sky keeps crying and the rivers keep rising. hopefully we'll find our way out of here tomorrow, before it's too late... power of nature really struck hard this time! wine and good times with the girls of jungal makes us forget about weather issues, though. and, yes, we'll give australia another chance. for sure.

travel safely down the stream...

all roads lead to waga waga

the australian landscape is so diverse! we've driven nearly 2000 k's cross country, from melbourne to sydney - from sydney to byron bay, via sweet townie of bellingen.
spotted creatures: kangaroos, fruit bats (real giants), basking lizards, colourful parrots and a great amount of insects (not getting into details here).

count to 5
pulled over by the police when driving out of sydney after our show at the vanguard.  routine control, nothing else. greta was asked to count to five and she must have passed the test, because the two friendly cops let us move on. one...two...three...four...five...still not drunk (yeah!)

new-in-town
there are loads of great vintage stores lined up along king street in newtown, sydney. if only we had more time and money to spend... and our nickname of that part of town is "thaitown" due to the huge amount of thai restaurants in the area. awesome veggie thai lunch! show at the vanguard went well. the venue is gorgeous, reminds us of a puppet theater. and the chicks walking down king str. are probably cut out from a 50's fanzine - fanzy!

first dip of 2011
byron bay takes you in and puts waves into the water and brings out people with boards and invites you for a dip. come as you are! pale as the moon with no sun to fight. swimming in january makes no sense, but feels sooo good. and hours later there is a stage and a crowd of people with remains of salt in their hair and the show turns out to be one of the best we've had in a while. cheers, mates, for inviting us - great party!
